With the rise of the fast food industry, society is able to eat on the go and never stop. But what are the health concerns as our diet changes more and more to convenience food?

Jesus talks about food (his body) that is eternal, but in our modern culture, we desire instant results.

Join us on Sunday as we explore what it means to fast in the spiritual sense of the word and reclaim the eternal nourishment for our bodies and souls.

Are you interested in learning more about the life of the church?  Meeting new people?  Maybe you’ve been a part of the community for years, but have been hanging out in the periphery. 

Our Peace Orientation gives you a chance to meet new people, discern how God is moving in the life of our lives as a community of faith, and empower you to identify and share your gifts to bless the world.

As we roll out nametags for our community, we are asking our ushers to help facilitate this for new people. Join us after worship on August 18 or 25 for a 15-minute tutorial learning how to create nametags to ensure everyone is known. It’s a quick, easy process. Whether you have been an usher before or if you’re interested in serving in that position for the first time, we’d love for you to help serve as a frontline person of hospitality and welcome.

Look for the box in the Narthex to donate school supplies, new or gently used clothing and tennis shoes for families in need. This year our donations will be going to Maria’s Closet, a program run by NBISD. Donations will be collected and dropped off between now and Sunday, August 18.

The Endowment Fund Committee will be hosting an informative lunch and meeting on Sunday, September 22^nd immediately following church service. We will have a representative from the Lutheran Foundation of the Southwest share with us what an endowment fund is, how it is administered by both their organization and Peace Lutheran and educate us how an endowment gift is a “gift that keeps on giving” into the next generation.

Our wonderful Fellowship Team will be serving lunch that day. We would like to have a “ballpark idea” of how many people to plan for lunch. Please email, call, or text Cheryl Braaten or Nathan Anderson to join us for this event.

What is Yoga? Yoga is a practice for healthy living.
Yoga is a mind, body, and spirit practice that can build strength, flexibility, balance, resilience, and community. Using breathwork and asana (Sanskrit word for “poses”) an entire yoga practice allows the individual to develop a mind-body awareness that can help manage pain, reduce stress, increases mobility, prevent and recover from injuries.

These classes will be beginner friendly -
for ALL ages and abilities.

Ephesians 5:15,16 – Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil.

God gives all of us the same abundance of time – 24 hours in every day, and it’s so easy to waste! Steward disciples pray for wisdom to live each day to its fullest, and to turn away from the world’s evils.

August 25, 2024 (14^th Sunday after Pentecost, Proper 16, Year B)

John 6:58 – This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which the ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever.

To stay physically healthy we have to eat lots of good vegetables, and to stay spiritually healthy we need to nourish ourselves on the Word of God and the Bread of Life in Holy Communion.

Our friends at Snapology will be back at Peace from May 27 to August 16, 9am - 4pm, Monday - Friday.

The Fellowship Hall will be unavailable for rental or events during that time. If you will be in and out of the church this summer, please respect their time and space. 

All Pre-K through Elementary grade children are invited each Sunday to join us for “God's Story”. This is our way of connecting God’s big story to their own stories at a level appropriate for young children. Together we dive into the scripture for the day using a variety of teaching resources. Our goal is to create a safe space for children to have meaningful conversations about God, Jesus, faith, and our everyday lives.

“God’s Story” takes place during the scripture and sermon portion of our worship service (about 20-25 minutes). We meet in our Fellowship Hall, which is in visible proximity to our sanctuary and restrooms. The children are led by our wonderful team of trained and background checked adults from our congregation. If you’d like to help or have any questions, please reach out to Deacon Andrew.

"Living the Questions"offers a variety of faith-based guides introducing progressive Christianity in 20-minute DVD sessions with leading voices of faith.  "Seekers & Sponges" was so stirred many years ago that we are bringing it back Sunday, May 5. at 8:30 am. In person and Zoom.

In our class, everyone in our group becomes a teacher for one another, sharing experiences and perspectives that facilitates a respectful, enlightening approach to adult learning.

PEACE PRAYER MINISTRY:

Did you make any resolutions for the New Year? Many of us have a desire to have a more intimate prayer life, so might I suggest carving out more time for prayer and reflection? Peace Lutheran Church has an active Prayer Ministry. We have an Email Prayer Chain, we have a Zoom “Sweet Hour of Prayer” Group that meets every Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. and we have a Prayer loom that is included in our Sunday morning prayers. I would like to welcome new members to join our email Prayer Chain and our Monday morning Prayer Group. We have experienced some amazing, answered prayers this year and we have given comfort to many of our members in their times of distress.
